Are you a business woman who is juggling running a business or working full-time, raising a family, maintaining a home and finding time to spend with family and friends? It’s tough to try and keep all of the balls up in the air at the same time, and whilst we do the best that we can, sometimes some areas of our lives will not always be balanced and working together harmoniously. But remember … YOU are your best asset! 

Ensure that you take time out for you to do the things that you enjoy and to enrich your soul.

As we strive to keep everything on track, our own self-care is often the first thing to be neglected which can lead to a myriad of issues. It’s vital to understand that YOU are your own best asset and should be your number one priority at all times. As women, we often put other people’s needs ahead of our own, and we need to understand that by nurturing and looking after ourselves, we in turn are able to give our best version of ‘us’ to support others that feature in our lives, such as our employees, colleagues, partners, family and friends.

Ensure that you take time out for you to do the things that you enjoy and to enrich your soul. It may be a walk in the park, lunch out with friends, time to read a book and enjoy a coffee or time playing with your children. Do not be a slave to your work, as if you take time out you will return refreshed, relaxed and ready to again start giving and delivering your best. It’s also important to take holidays to re-group and focus on other aspects of your life, and pursue hobbies and interests.

Practice gratitude on a daily basis.

It’s imperative that you give yourself time to focus on your own health, well-being and needs. Indulge in a massage to reduce tension and stress. Undertake some form of exercise to keep your body in top shape, you may love to walk or run, go to the gym or participate in yoga … it really doesn’t matter, but take care of your body and ensure you are moving to keep your body functioning well.

Nourish yourself with fresh produce and healthy foods; try to steer away from chemicals, too much alcohol and fast foods laden with sugar and fat. Drink lots of water to keep your body healthy, eliminate toxins and re-invigorate your brain power.

I’m also a strong believer in practising gratitude on a daily basis. Being grateful and saying ‘thank you’ are important aspects to living a fulfilled and healthy life. Similar to smiling and having a positive attitude, practising gratitude puts a positive slant on your life and makes you appreciate and thankful for all that comes your way. Work on a series of affirmations to help create the life you’ve always dreamed of or practise mindfulness to help still and calm your mind.

Looking after your own health and well-being should always be one of your main priorities. To give your best self to your business, your colleagues and/or employees or family and friends, then you need to be in a healthy, happy, positive state rather than being stressed, overwhelmed or overworked. Don’t feel guilty about taking time out for you, and put your inner critic back in its box when it starts to berate you. You work hard and you deserve a life that is not only wealthy and successful but also healthy, happy and balanced.
