“Sitting in the black leather couch waiting for my interview I looked at the elevator and thought about running. I was quite intimidated by the floor-to-ceiling windows and the hallway of awards. I was interviewing at one of the world’s largest recruitment agencies in London as a business partner and I kept on thinking, “I’m not good enough, I should go and save myself the humiliation.”

I stayed and they asked for a business plan. I’ve never done a business plan before but I had a big dream. I got the contract and opened an agency in South Africa to recruit for the UK. It turned out to be one of the most amazing opportunities of my life. Now I’m a seasoned entrepreneur in yet another country and another business venture.

Women in particular, hold themselves back from success through limiting beliefs, excuses and negative self-talk.

I campaign for all women to learn how to rock their world. Lean into your fears, say yes to opportunities that light you up and discover the magic in you.

7 Courage Strategies:

1. Take on Big Audacious Projects

Take on projects where you feel ‘not good enough’ or ‘not well-known enough to do’. Interview an expert, write a book, organise a conference or a function at your child’s school. Start by showing up.

2. Act ‘as if’

Act ‘as if’ you are already big time and ‘as if’ you’re already the person you want to be. Act with passion, conviction and courageous­ly connect with people. Leave an impression.

3. Handle the ‘Yuck’ in Business and Life

‘Yuck’ could mean losing weight, getting out of debt or saving your marriage. You have a choice. Take small steps to get out of overwhelm and ask for help.

4. Ask Your Partner to Contribute

Emotionally, financially or with the household. Ditch the guilt and don’t try to control it all. To have a more fulfilled life or succeed in business, you will need time and support. Ask for it. Accept it.

5. Chase Rejection

You will be amazed what people say ‘yes’ to. Treat life like a game. Say: “I have to get 20 rejections this month”. This will defeat fear and put you squarely in the zone where real magic happens.

6. Let Go of the Myth of ‘Doing It All’

You forgot someone’s birthday or ‘Spirit Day’ in your local community. It doesn’t make you a bad person. Focus on what really matters to you. Life is too short to live in a constant state of guilt.

7. Collaborate

There is a reason why people with workout buddies lose more weight than those who go it alone. When you participate and collaborate you work off of each other’s momentum and achieve more.
